lazy blogger

So even after reading the book and watching the movie, I guess I didn't really feel as though it was a big deal for Julie (of Julie and Julia) to blog every day.

Booooooooy was I wrong!
I think: "gee, I should really blog about something interesting."
Then I think: "hmm, I'm the least interesting person in the whole wide world."
And then I think: "I'll do it tomorrow." (Scarlet O'Hara complex...)
But since I will be away from the great vast world we call the internet for a few days, I figured it would be prudent to write a little blog tonight. Just in case you thought I fell off the face of the planet.
In addition to working on classroom things, I've been working on several custom orders lately. But I'm so happy that I had a few hours last night to work on a little something just for ME.
Seems a little unfinished to me somehow--I'll have to ponder what else it needs.

I'm also hoping to make a pillow case for my travel pillow. . . but it's 9:30 and I'm getting sleeeeeeepy, so I'm not sure that's going to happen.

last day of glorious crafternoons...

Tomorrow, I start work again. Real work. Not crafting work.
So I grabbed on to the day with gusto! Ran some errands, finished up my silent auction offerings and another laundry bag that needed finishing touches, did some laundry, twittered, and created what is perhaps my favorite bag so far (more on this to come).
Sssssh! Silent auction!

It's called *Jet Set*--a matching double-layer shoe bag and travel laundry bag...and I had so much fun working on it and the description for the auction catalog!

Happy Birthday, Happy Bid Day...Oh, all happy days

Happy Birthday, Miss G! I hope you enjoy your handmade kitchen towels (in your signature green), but, even more, I hope you truly enjoy your bedazzled iTunes gift card! :)

I went to TCU in Ft. Worth today to meet my "Pi Daughters." Again, may I say I am much too young to have a "daughter" who is 18. Nevertheless. I went, had one only today because the other might(?) be sick with the flu or might(?) not accept the bid after all.

I think my new PD really liked the gift I made for her. I found out she is a fashion merchandising major who eventually wants to be a wedding planner. Super fun. She's taking a construction class this semester and I told her she will have sooooo much fun. At least, I hope she does. I had a lot of fun in my construction classes.

Here's to being the friend of someone who is officially old, and here's to being the Pi mom to someone who is officially part of the First and Finest.

busy morning, lazy afternoon

This morning I finished up the last handmade handkerchief for a bride-to-be. It was a big order and a lot of work. But a lot of fun. I love knowing that I'm a small part of someone's big day.

I love custom orders!!
I packaged these and another order up (yay!) and sweated bullets all the way to the Post Office, going over and over and over what I did in my head because the clients' names were so similar. Don't want to add to anybody's stress (including mine)!
I piddled around at Target for a while--I love school supplies but am (self) prohibited from purchasing anything else. Ever. I think I have pens and markers to last a lifetime.
I sat on the couch with the poodle for a while, embroidering some goodies for the new ADPi girls I'll be "adopting" on Sunday. I'm kind of like a grown-up big sis--an alumna who can be a new member's go-to person.
I wish we had done something like that when I was 18 and new to school...out of state.
It's my first year to be involved in the "Pi Mom" program. I shudder a bit at the "Mom" however. I'm not old enough to be an 18-year-old girl's mom!!! :)
C'est la vie.

And maybe I should confess I took a nap. One of the last lazy afternoons for a loooong time.

Shout out to sewing!

So, teaching a teacher is....interesting. Teaching a friend is even more. (Although to be completely honest, I didn't really teach Miss G anything except how to make a french seam. She's already a domestic diva.)

We went to JoAnn Fabric today to make cost-efficient fabric selections for the surprise duvets Miss G is making for her mom's guest room. I think we came up with a really cute final selection.

The funky orange ziggle fabric (ziggle?) will be used for accent pillows. And there is another print we'll be going back for!!

OK, Miss G, I had a great time working on the duvet covers today!!! (I'm sorry your super trendy head wrap looks like you've been in triage; I'm sorry I took mine off the moment my rear end hit my car seat!)

And now I've got to get busy and a) finish the quilt I'm giving a certain someone this weekend and b) finish the quilt for my own daybed.

SewSweetStitches.etsy.com

I heart Melissa from SewSweetStitches and her adorable designs !!! (And, it appears, my doggie does, as well.)

A great new twitter pal has adorable (have I mentioned that?!) felt goodies at her etsy.com shop. I snagged one of her precious coffee cozies.

Watch out world! :)

Check out her shop and her blog!

I will be the envy of all the bleary-eyed teachers at school every morning around 7:40. :)

next stop--cowboy princess party!

Well, shoot. I just deleted this post. :(

Believe me when I say it was really clever.

The gist: I woke up late, was paranoid that I had missed my flight (that is actually tomorrow), blah blah blah.

Crisis averted, but insanity most likely not.

I spent the rest of the morning making a gift sack for my niece's birthday present. (Doll box way too big for normal sacks...and before you think ill of me that I would just stick a gift in a bag, know that my niece lives farrrrrrrr far away and the wrapping would get bashed in transit.)

So at my fantastically creative mother's suggestion, I made one of my XL laundry bags (aka "big mamma") to slip over it.

Et voila. Two great gifts in one. ;)

I hope you love it, baby--even though you're a totally big girl right now!

AAAAH....and now this post has funky spacing! (guess it's better than no spacing at all)

busy bee

I was a busy bee yesterday--and probably will be today.

I feel back-to-school breathing down my neck. Not enough time to do everything I need to do!!!

Yesterday I ran some errands, had a great gossipy lunch with a friend, and worked on a custom order for my etsy.com shop.

It was a great challenge--a teenage boy's laundry bag. Girls are so easy! We ended up deciding on denim and a subtle nod to UT with a burnt orange monogram applique.

I think it turned out great and I LOVED working with denim!

I need to work on the photos of the bags I made while at my parents' house and get those listed. And Lord, do I ever need to pick up my house!

I bet I have a rush of creative energy this afternoon and not an ounce of Holly Housewife energy.

ABC

Thank you, ABC, for sucking hours from my lifeblood. Why did I feel the need to watch The Bachelorette eps from when I was on vacation? I already know how it ended. I already know Ed is (allegedly) a cheater.

So why? Why the viewing of reality train wreck??

And, PS, didn't she just see her family with Ed, so why was she so squeely and excited maybe a day later to see her parents? I adore my family, but....

i caved...

...and bought the iPhone I've been looking at forever.

:)

Do I really need an excuse to be on the internet more? Probably not.

Am I the only one who finds America's Got Talent....less than exciting? My on-demand movie just quit and this came on... A grandma with the Hoff's faux underpants?

I'm not sure I want talent if that is talent.

But that must be my blood sugar talking. Must eat something besides tortillas and cake balls tomorrow. :)

oh, bell captain....

How lovely was it to have someone handle my bags at a fabulous Las Vegas hotel...

and how horrid was it to schlepp them myself off the luggage carousel to the car and to my bedroom once home?
This makes it a little easier.

New on my etsy.com site: *Oh, Bell Captain* Luggage Handle Wraps in four fabulous fabrics: New York, Paris, Seattle, and Palm Beach.

...sigh...if only everyday were a vacation!
