Manic Monday

I suppose it's not really fair to say my Monday was manic, but I just like that song way too much to not use it.

If my Monday were lyrics, it would go something like: trash truck woke me up, crap forgot to put trash out last night, ran errands this morning and consumed an oatmeal chocolate chip cookie from JDs, spent lunch catching up on THE BACHELOR and practicing calligraphy.

I think The Bangles have nothing to worry about with my lyric list.

Spontaneous quiltcon day trip

So I woke up yesterday morning and drove to ATX for the day to visit the first annual QuiltCon.

I'm still trying to wrap my head around all the awesome. And I'm bummed that I missed the workshop registrations--every class I wanted to take sold out in a snap. However, just going for the show was amazing.

My IG stream last night flooded with a few (a very few) of the awesome quilts. Take a peek.

And now everything is bright and beautiful and quilty today. These sheets are in the washing machine now. I'm also biding my time until they go on sale so I can get a king set & use the flat sheet for a quilt backing.

Reading is Cool, Yo!

It's no secret I love to read. In fact, I was grounded from books (not TV, not friends' houses, not telephone time) when I was little because that was the most dire punishment: a day without books.

So when I stumbled upon some awesome eReader cases a few weeks ago (thanks, Maryam, for the tip!), I couldn't decide which I liked better for my Nook, so I bought all three with the thought of taking the other ones back.

Of course, I got home and realized the cases wouldn't fit my NookColor, and fast forward a week to my new obsession with calligraphy, and the "Reading is Cool, Yo!" giveaway is born...

Enter the Rafflecopter below to win some great (I think) prizes:

One lucky winner will receive: his/her choice of eReader cases (fits my new Paperwhite and most other kindle styles; it might even work with your new iPad mini) AND a $10 gift card to amazon, B&N, or iTunes.

Two other lucky winners will receive: some exclusive Reading is Cool, Yo! note cards hand-lettered by moi.

Three other lucky winners will receive: a hand-lettered bookmark and an old-fashioned letter from me.

All you need to do is tweet, comment, and/or post an IG pic with #readingwithjenni to win!

A new obsession...

2013 is the year of Jenni. No. Really. It is. This is the year that I do those things that I've always wanted to try...or at least those old things that make me happy.

First up: calligraphy.

The amazing Lauren of Blue Eye Brown Eye is...amazing. There are no words. Check out her stuff: http://blueeyebrowneye.com/

I took a three-hour beginners workshop this week and I'm OBSESSED. I'm practicing on my tracing paper. I'm being ridiculously ambitious and sending out calligraphic Valentine's Day cards to local friends and virtual friends.

My IG is a scripty mess. But I just can't stop!! I know I hold the pen wrong and I'll never be able to do anything but a super lame handwriting version of calligraphy, but I'm having a ball.

I've been busy...

2012 has been an interesting year. I took time off from a job I loved (but never set out to do) to try something I've always dreamed of doing: writing a novel with the intent to not let it moulder in a drawer (or on a hard drive) but with the intent to sell it.

No 9-5 (or 7:45-4:15 as the case was). Just me, my brain, and several electronic (and a few not-so-high-tech) gadgets.

So that's what I've been doing. And I've been loving it.

But talking to yourself all day and making up people in your mind can get a little exhausting. So I did what I've always done when life gets nutty: I started sewing.

I've been steadily building up my etsy boutique again. And having a blast playing with fabric--bringing back some old favorites and introducing new ones. Take a peek...

Lunch Duty: Mean Girls

Out for a quick lunch. People watching is always at its best in the Park Cities.

There are lots of ladies lunching, so I'm watching a group of older ladies eat lunch.

Seriously, it's just like watching high school girls. I can tell who's cool and popular and who's not. They are teenagers in 70-year-old bodies.

It's both awesome and terrifying.

Also awesome is the free bundtlette the dude just brought me. Cranberry lemon. Fabulous.
